Executive Search Process

HLA’s executive search process is as follows: 

1)    Initial client meeting 

Here we outline the search requirements (including expected timeline), learn about our client’s corporate culture, future organizational strategy, and mission.

2)    A deep-dive

We next conduct a more thorough analysis of our client’s culture and the open position, which involves meeting key executives. Based on what we learn, we create a detailed role profile that includes the “between the lines” qualifications unique to each role.

3)    Executive scorecard development

We then create a scorecard outlining the specific requirements, qualifications, and personal attributes needed for the role, which HLA will use to screen candidates during the sourcing and networking phase.

4)    The search 

Using our proprietary comprehensive relational database and research capabilities, we approach, qualify, and interview candidates, presenting only the strongest to our client.  Market analysis is the start of our research approach, outlining key companies our client may wish us to explore for executive talent. We offer weekly meetings with our clients to present a comprehensive status report outlining our progress and invite client feedback throughout the process to guide our search.

5)    The final shortlist 

Through detailed interviews exploring the candidates’ backgrounds, competencies, experiences, and interests in the role, and initial reference checking, we create a final list of the 3-5 strongest candidates..  Once the final list is approved by our client, we complete thorough reference checks (a minimum of 5) and create detailed candidate profiles and interview summaries for each candidate. 

6)    Client interviews & decision 

Each final candidate will be interviewed by our client (we will coordinate scheduling if desired).  We will be available should the client want to discuss which candidate we believe is best situated for their needs, with the client ultimately making the decision.  We are available to mediate the offer and salary negotiation process. 

7)    Placement

After an offer is accepted, we assist with the on-boarding of the candidate into the workplace. Our degree of involvement varies depending on client wishes. Even after the placement has been made, we maintain close ties with our client and placed candidate to ensure long-term satisfaction for both parties.
